Picked up from Ubud in a clean car. The driver was 5 minutes early which was comforting at 3am. The driver drove smoothly and safely. After about an hour we descended into Mt Batur caldera passing dozens of Jeeps preparing for their journey up the peak. It was at this point I felt happy with my decision to chose the quite path for the sunrise hike. After a quick bathroom stop at a convenience store (BYO toilet paper as none was provided), we met the guides lakeside who gave us our headlamps.
 The boat trip duration was only about 10min before setting up a steep and sometimes slippery 45min climb to our sunrise lookout. The guides were informative, patient and helpful. Once at the summit we were met with an orange glow to the east. Looking towards Mt Batur peak we could see streams of headlights and torches weaving up to the summit. Again, with our group of two guides and four tourists, I was glad I chose this tour. Our guide took so many great photos of us using our own cameras. He had some great ideas to make the photos fun and more memorable. 
 Returning was slow and steady with a few minor slips on the loose sections.
 Overall I highly recommend this tour. No doubt the jeep and trek up Mt Batur has appeal for some but for me, fewer crowds, less mechanical noise and a more nature driven experience is what I search for. This tour fits the bill perfectly.

This was a great trip on so many levels. Justin was super quick to communicate with. He was punctual, clear and reliable. I booked the sort of alternative tour to see Mount Batur with him and I couldn't have been happier. The driver he organized took such good care of me. He was on time (in the middle of the night as I was staying quite far away). The driver drove carefully, making sure I wouldn't get carsick on the windy roads. Yosi was super polite. He also knew a lot about the country, the fruits, the plants and was great to chat to on the way back. The waterfall that we visited was a nice extra. My guide to hike up the mountain was excellent. Although Nawa was only doing this for a few years and in his early twenties, he was forthcoming, a good guide and made sure the pace was ok. I struggled sometimes with going down (it was slippery) and he helped me down and always reached out before I had to ask if he could help me. He even immediately concluded when I started coughing that it was from a bug. Which was true. I'm so happy I took this tour instead of the busier one at mount Batur itself. We still had a beautiful view, although we were a bit lower, much more personal and intimate experience. There were only about 8 other people at the top..if you are after a more personal experience, I highly recommend this tour. Take good walking shoes (preferably instead of running shoes, although Nawa wore his crocs with ease of course :-)), and some bug spray. Highly recommend this trip!

Great communication from the moment we booked, we added the transportation from our hotel and it was seamless. Our guide Iwan was brilliant - very knowledgeable and ensured we stayed away from the crowds at the summit. Would highly recommended this excursion!

The night boat across and the hike in the dark up the hill were really out of my comfort zone but our guide Nawa was so friendly and helpful and eased my anxiety. The sunrise was beautiful and Nawa is an amazing photographer and took great pics of us. It was such a great experience. Then the boat trip and local info from Nawa afterwards was a lovely touch. The view is definitely better from here than from mt batur and it is less busy and more peaceful. Highly recommend. Everything was so well organised. Great communication every step of the way. Thank you so much to Nawa and Yosi!💕
