Stay in an iconic lake rafthouse & boat safaris to spot wildlife
Staying in a floating rafthouse on Cheow Lan Lake in Khao Sok National Park is a pretty special experience that you can't find elsewhere. While these iconic rafthouses may be simple, you'll wake up surrounded by nature, take refreshing swims in the lake, and enjoy stunning views right outside your door. The experience includes a lake tour, swimming or kayaking, trekking and exploring a cave, and a boat safari for wildlife spotting. Staying in a floating raft house, guests can enjoy freshly caught fish for dinner and wake up to the breathtaking mist-covered karsts. The location provides an excellent opportunity to spot diverse wildlife, including hornbills, otter, gibbons, langurs, and macaques.Important note: Do note though that this is a very basic experience, so don't come expecting any luxury! The accommodation provided is basic (see more below) and during high season, the group sizes for the excursions can be fairly large (and chaotic!). If you want something more comfortable and a smaller group size, we'd recommend the other experiences. What to ExpectA scenic lake tour via a long-tail boatOpportunities for swimming or kayaking in the lakeHike through a jungle forest to explore a cave, or visit a waterfallEvening boat safari for wildlife spotting on day 1Staying in a floating raft house under the starsWake up to the sounds of gibbons and mist-covered karstsEarly morning boat safari to spot langurs and macaques on day 2Chance to encounter diverse wildlife.Enjoyment of peaceful surroundings and lush natureVery basic amenities at the raft house: simple mattresses on the floor, shared bathroom, no fan or ACTo bring your own towel and toiletriesKnow before you book Please read all the details carefully to ensure this trip meets your expectations!About your host: Please note that Mr Yoo does not lead this experience, he only organises the logistics with your rafthouse provider. If you would like to spend time with Mr Yoo, you can consider booking this 3D2N experience which will include one night stay at the the farmstay before proceeding to the rafthouse. This makes your visit a lot more authentic and heartfelt. Who this is for: This is a very basic experience, and we can't stress that enough. During high season, it can get extremely crowded and even a bit chaotic. It's best suited for backpackers who enjoy meeting new people and don’t mind roughing it out for a bit of adventure. Limited English: You’ll be accompanied by a local long-tail boat driver and guide who has limited English skills. While they can help to spot some wildlife, please note that they might not be able to provide detailed information about the area.Solo travellers: During the high season (November to April), due to limited capacity on the lake, solo travelers may need to share a raft house with others of the same gender (maximum 2–4 people), as per the raft house policy. Couples, however, will have their own private room and won’t need to share. We understand this arrangement may not suit everyone, so please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to explore alternative options.Park fees: The Khao Sok National Park, Pier, and Wildlife Fees are not included in the package and are approximately 540 THB per adult / 270 THB per child in total. payable in cash, but are subject to change based on the park's policies. Please ensure you bring enough cash to cover these fees.High Season Group Size: During the high season (November - March), guests will likely be part of a large group, with up to 100 guests staying at the rafthouse. The lake has limited trails and caves for exploration, which means that both day-trip and overnight-trip visitors all share the same spots.Meal Service: All meals will be served at the same time for all guests, which can make the co-living space a bit busy during meal times. Expect a lively atmosphere as everyone gathers to enjoy their meals together. Guests can ask for a refill, except for the fish.Jungle Trekking: During the jungle trek, there will be sections of the trail that require crossing over streams, so your shoes are likely to get wet. If you prefer to keep your shoes dry and don’t have spare ones, you can rent jungle trekking shoes for 50 THB.Kayak Availability: There are 6-7 kayaks available at the rafthouse, which may not be sufficient for everyone in the group. Customers will likely need to share kayaks, providing an opportunity for interaction and bonding with other guests.About the Rafthouse Accommodations are very rustic and basic, featuring shared bathroom. a mattress on the floor with a simple pillow and blanket. Please be aware that there are no fans or air conditioning available.Once you arrive at the floating rafthouse, you’ll be off the grid! There is no mobile signal, so it’s the perfect chance to truly disconnect and immerse yourself in nature.Towels, shampoo, and soap are not provided, so please remember to bring your own.Electricity is limited and only available during the night for a few hours: 6:30 pm to 10:30 pmThe rafthouse doesn't have en-suite toilets - the toilets are shared between rafthouses.Meals Meals are included, though note that the meals are simple and may not be as good as elsewhere in Thailand. Halal and Vegetarian options are available - do let us know in your notes on the booking form.Itinerary notesPlease note that the itinerary allows for only one trail to be explored, and the destination is determined by the guide, depending on the season and weather conditions. Reaching the chosen spot will require a moderate-intensity hike, which could take 30 minutes to 1 hour each way, depending on the trail. The path may sometimes be wet, so we appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we prioritize safety and aim to provide the best possible experience for everyone.***Arrival & Pier Wait: Upon arrival at the pier, guests will need to wait for the boat to be ready. The guide will collect the national park and pier fees from the guests, as these are not included in the package, and pay them directly to the national park officer. Guests should expect some waiting time before the boat departs at 12 PM. The waiting time can vary and might take up to 30 minutes or more, depending on how quickly the arrangements are made.Meals and Snacks: The first meal is served around 2:30 PM, but snacks will be provided by the guide after the cave exploration. It’s recommended that guests have breakfast beforehand, as the wait can be long, and you may get hungry. While the food is decent, it may not be the most flavorful you will find in Thailand, with options like stir-fried noodles, vegetables, and rice. The itinerary may change or be canceled depending on local conditions and weather.Since Cheow Lan Lake is in a remote jungle area, please be prepared for some flexibility and enjoy the adventure as it unfolds!Logistics and meeting pointPlease note that if you are travelling with a suit case or a large backpack, you may not be able to bring it to the raft house due to limited space on the boat. We suggested you to bring small backpack for your overnight lake trip. A waterproof backpack is recommended to protect your belongings from water splashes during the boat trip or sudden rain. You have 2 options to store your bags:If you are coming back to Khao Sok, you can store with your host in Khao Sok and retrieve when you come backIf you are traveling to another destination, your host can arrange your transfer and have the driver bring your bag to you Meeting Point is at the Khao Sok area. Please note that you will need to arrive ONE DAY before the trip to be safe. There is no early morning public bus available from Ao Nang and Phuket. The earliest bus from Phuket is at 8 AM, and the latest is at 4 PM. Travel time to Khao Sok varies between 2 to 4 hours, depending on your departure point. Please check your departure destination and plan accordingly for drop-off in Khao Sok village. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us!

We are an older married couple and do not want to sleep in a dormitory, is there a private room please
Julie rand, 18 Feb 2025
Hi Julie, If you book for 2 people, you will not have to share the room.
can you organise one tour 2 days 1 night on the lake for 5 persons in private tour no body more. 6 mars to 7 mars 2025. thank you
sylvie, 27 Jan 2025
Hello! For the 2D1N tour on the lake, we can certainly arrange private accommodation for your group of 5. However, please note that the activities (such as boat rides or group excursions) will be conducted with other guests, as this is a shared experience for the tour.
I’m interested in the airport transfer add on from URT. Can you add two one way transfers for a round trip? And how do we know the times available?
Colleen, 12 Jan 2025
Yes, we can arrange that! Please let us know the date you would like to book and the total number of participants.
We are planning to book the Lakeside Stay and Wild Safari for this coming Saturday and Sunday. However, we are coming from Koh Lanta, and since the day program starts at 9:00 AM on Saturday and transportation from Koh Lanta is only available during the day, we will need to arrive the day before, on Friday. Where would be the best place for us to stay in Khoa Sok?
Loubna , 17 Dec 2024
Hi Loubna, Thanks for reaching out! We'd recommend staying in the Khao Sok city center area (https://maps.app.goo.gl/p9Vzeh1JtWGTw72X9). It’s very convenient, with plenty of restaurants, minimarts, hotels, and coffee shops. Your host can easily pick you up from any hotel in this area for your tour on Saturday. Hope this helps! :)
