Sapa O'Chau Travel Social Enterprise
Shu Tan, a single mother from the Black Hmong tribe, saw the challenges local youth faced—many couldn’t finish school or find stable jobs. She wanted to change that. So, she started Sapa O’Chau, Vietnam’s first Hmong-owned homestay and trekking company, using tourism to give back. With support from volunteers, she launched the first Hmong-owned homestay, a socially conscious trekking service, and a boarding facility to help ethnic minority youth access education. Sapa O’Chau reinvests profits into scholarships, job opportunities, and training for locals, tackling systemic issues like illiteracy and economic instability. Every trek with them helps fund education, every homestay supports a local family.
