Katni hires and trains up women guides from the community, providing women with income opportunities, breaking gender taboos, and promoting equality. 

Katni is Lombok’s first female guide. She broke taboos by starting her own hiking company and hiring women guides, giving them the opportunity to earn income and gain equality in society.

When she first started guiding in Rinjani, it was taboo for women to lead hikes in the deeply patriarchal society of Lombok. So she started her own guiding business (still the only female-owned business in Rinjani!), and hired women as guides.
