Experience the wild side of Borneo!
Discover two of Borneo’s most remarkable wildlife destinations in one incredible trip. Your journey begins in the heart of Deramakot Forest Reserve, one of the oldest rainforests in Borneo. While spotting wildlife here can be a challenge due to the dense jungle, that’s part of the adventure—this is the real Borneo wilderness, one of the world's ancient rainforests. As you explore, keep an eye out for the Borneo gibbon, orangutans, leopard cats, sambar deer, giant squirrels, flying squirrels, rhinoceros hornbills, and mouse deer. With some very good luck, you might encounter pygmy elephants, or even the rare clouded leopard. After two days of jungle exploration, you'll head to the Kinabatangan River, where wildlife spotting is much easier. Daily river cruises will give you a front-row seat to see proboscis monkeys, hornbills, and other unique species in their natural habitat. This trip is the perfect blend of rugged jungle adventure and laid-back river cruising, offering a truly immersive experience for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. What to ExpectExperience thrilling night safaris in Deramakot Forest Reserve, one of the oldest rainforests in Borneo.Enjoy multiple 4WD safaris to spot Borneo gibbons, orangutans, leopard cats, sambar deer, giant squirrels, flying squirrels, rhinoceros hornbills, and mouse deer.Embark on peaceful river safari cruise along the Kinabatangan River, keeping an eye out for proboscis monkeys, hornbills, and other unique species in their natural habitat.Witness the magic of a misty sunrise over the river while enjoying an early morning cruise.Support local communities and conservation efforts by staying at Mr. Jamal’s comfortable B&B.Accommodation (Minimum 2 Guests):The Deramakot Twin Room offers basic accommodations ideal for wildlife explorers. We are traveling to Sandakan in February. We are going 4 days. Can you please recommend us a good tour where we can see the orangutans and the jungle?
Luis, 01 Dec 2024
Hi Luis, thanks for reaching out! I’d recommend our 3D2N Kinabatangan experience—it’s our bestseller and offers amazing opportunities for wildlife spotting. That said, there isn’t just one “good tour” as it really depends on your budget and preference. I do want to mention that while the Kinabatangan is fantastic for seeing orangutans in the wild, they are unpredictable wildlife, so sightings can’t be guaranteed. If you're interested in a guaranteed orangutan experience, you might also consider visiting the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. This can be added as an optional excursion when you make your booking. Hope this helps!
