Highly recommend this to everyone… especially to someone looking for a vegan or vegetarian diet restriction but wants to taste an authentic Balinese food, this is the way to go!

This was a truly 5* day. The trip round the market and the farm tour were incredibly interesting and informative. Made was a great guide (thank you Made!). The cooking class was excellent and fun as well with a great group of people. Our hosts were the best, great cooks, patient and with very good humour. And our food tasted fantastic. The activity was set to start at 9am but I had to make my way to the farm as they didn't offer pickup for solo travellers. Not difficult to get there from Ubud though, about 20 minutes Gojek ride. When I arrived at about 9am, I was offered some tea and coffee, and also a platter of 2 local snacks which tasted pretty good. However, I continued waiting for another group to arrive, and it was only about 1030 that we actually started the farm tour. At that point, some of the staff had started cooking some dishes. Not too sure if this was part of the plan to start so late. The farm tour was interactive and fun, unfortunately there was no rice planting, ploughing, or harvesting, due to the current season. We walked around the farm for about and hour, while the guide told us about the rice, some of the flowers, and some of the other crops. We harvested a banana trunk for a dish later. We then ended up back at the starting point where we took a break and then went to catch some fish in the backyard pond using live crickets and small fishing rods. This was fun! After that we were told that we would be starting the cooking soon. The staff however were already cooking some of the dishes. For cooking, we had some hands on work making Satay Lillit with pre-prepared meat mixture. We also cut up some banana trunk that we had harvested earlier during the walk. And we also pounded some spices and herbs in a mortar and pestle. However, all these took a mere 2-3 minutes. And we were then told to wait for lunch and the rest would be prepared for us. Luckily I managed to grill some of the satay still. This was around 1145 Finally, it was time for lunch and we were served a plethora of dishes, which included the Satay, Banana Trunk Soup, and fried catfish which we had caught earlier. The other dishes were pre-prepared. After lunch, we proceeded to watch the guide roast some coffee over a wood fire. The coffee smelled great! He later shared that the beans were from his family plantation. He packed this up for us to bring home after that. The staff were really friendly, and the guide was great! Though the cooking portion was lacking though, but they did make up for it with the coffee roasting. And the duration of the activity was inaccurate as it was planned for 9am - 2pm, but was more like 1030am - 1pm. Overall, a good experience with interactive activities. Good to try something off the beaten path.
