Ulu Singapore

The label "Ulu" is generously applied to any out of the way place where nature is still somewhat untamed and wild. Really ulu places have plenty of wilderness and rustic charm to offer. Contrary to popular belief, there are still places left in Singapore that match the above description. Ulu Singapore is founded by an experienced nature guide - Robert, specialising in taking the curious and adventurous on guided nature walks to the remote and rustic corners of the city.

We did an intertidal walk with Mr Robert Heigermoser, creator of ulusingapore.com. (Ulu Singapore) on the Changi beach, The purpose of the walk was to observe the rich marine lives in their natural habitat on the shore. During this walk, we got to see sea cucumbers, anemones, crabs, molluscs, clams, shrimps, sand stars, sea urchins, sea grass and sea weed, among others. It is advisable to do such a walk with an experienced guide as he will be able to point out the sea creatures, which can be well camouflaged with sand and sea weeds. He would also be like a live "wikipedia" sharring how these creatures function and move. A note of caution: Some of these stuff could be poisonous or very delicate. Therefore it is best not to touch anything without asking the guide first. Such walks are also available at beaches at Sentosa, Chek Jawa (Pulau Ubin), Sisters Islands.
