The River Mouth is the nicest hotel by far we had during our trip in Vietnam. The staff is super friendly, the bungalow nearby the water was incredibly nice with a good bed, awesome private terrace with hamac, lovely outdoors bathroom and great common area to hang in the day or by night with delicious food. River Mouth is the perfect location to enjoy Phu Quoc's nature and calmness within only 20 min of bike ride to reach the city center and 15min from the nicest wild beach of the island. I really recommend this place, both for its environment and its friendliness.
This place is magical. You are away from all the bustle and noise of the main town, based in a sleepy fishing village near the north.
The two women who help run this place absolutely make it (I'm ashamed to say I've forgotten names as writing this a few months late) but they were genuinely some of the nicest I met on my entire trip, and made me feel so at home.
The dorm is incredible. Huge space and high ceiling with mosquito nets and fans. One of the most peaceful and relaxing spaces, which seems an incredible feat for a shared dorm. The shared toilet and showers are very clean.
The river deck is an amazing space. I spent a lot of time in the hammock watching the sun set with a mojito in hand. The food is incredible!! And very healthy - delicious huge house salad with prawns was a favourite.
Taking the kayak to the beach is lovely. The water is quite polluted, so you wouldn't want to fall in! And you have to go a bit far down to get to a beach where you'd want to swim. But I don't think any of this detracts from the stay at all. That is the reality of how waste is managed in Vietnam, and it is a huge shame. But it is better to see it and understand, rather than stay in a pristine resort and never realise the issue.
Sitting on the beach in the evening and watching the village's fisherman unload their catch was lovely. You get a feel for life on the island that the main town in the south does not afford you. You can hire a moped at a very reasonable price, and explore the island and its beaches.
This is not for party-goers or people who want a fancy, luxury set-up - but for people looking for something a off the beaten track, offering simple quality and a place to relax. I would go back in a heartbeat.
I basically liked everything and felt so good there that I extended my stay just two hours after arriving.
The staff is super friendly and polite, even though not all of them speak English well.
The dorm is huge, other places would fit at least twice as many beds in there. No aircon but ventilators, which is in my opinion a plus.
Very peaceful place where everyone just chills out.
They serve super delicious food as well (more expensive than street food for sure but it's worth it!).
Booking my stay in River Mouth I wasn't sure in the first place as I didn't know how it would be with street food in the fishermens village as I didn't want to eat at River Mouth all the time (the dishes they serve are beyond amazing but I like trying new stuff).
Truth be told: I got overwhelmed by all the food to choose from, there are even small supermarkets.
Be prepared to be the only tourist in this area, except for the other people staying at River Mouth.
Being able to use kajak, SUP and bicycle for free was awesome to explore the area. If you've got the time you should definitely kajak up the river as well!
The beach isn't cleaned but that only means that you're basically alone there all the time, huge plus compared to the tourist center if you ask me.
Wish there would have been more Vietnamese dishes to choose from for breakfast, but the pancakes and French toasts they serve are great alternative anyway and the Phó is huge!
Great food, really helpful staff, very relaxing. Using the canoes to get to the beach a short distance up the river was fun.
The river mouth is a marvellous place to stay. It is far from the crowd and from the big resorts of the island. If you love the nature, the peace and the quiet, then it’s the perfect place for you.
I spent there unfortunately only 2 nights and I wish I could have stayed longer. Our room was big and bright, with river view, I think one of the most beautiful places where I have ever slept. We liked so much our room that It was difficult to go out to explore the island ;-)
Everybody there is extremely nice and helpful, I recommend this place 100% !
