Red Whale delivered an 11-hour tour for our group of eight that was exactly as advertised, almost down to the minute. You can’t predict nature, but we saw the Komodo dragons, manta rays, and sea turtles as promised, and all the.views were stunning. The snorkeling was fantastic. A special shout out to Andre, our easygoing and helpful guide. He made the day even better with his enthusiasm. He literally led us by the hand underwater to make sure we could spot the turtles. Thank you, Andre.

We had an amazing day tour with Red Whale!! We always felt safe and cared for. I get sea sick very easily and they checked on me all the time to make sure I was ok. I am glad we chose the 15 seater boat it was very fast, plenty of room and less chance of getting sea sick. The staff and company are also very eco friendly which is very important to us and the environment! They used reusable Tupperware for our lunches, refillable water bottles, and made sure no one left any plastic behind or didn’t steal sand which is amazing!!! They are also aware of the reef and never drop an anchor on coral! Very important details that create a good impact! The guides are also great at taking pics of you! I never felt rushed. From checking in with Igor to the end of the trip it was a great experience! Plus saw 5 Manta rays, 3 Dragons, and 5 Turtles!!

Red Whale company was recommended to us and we in turn recommend it to others. There was a lot of activity packed into one day but it did not feel rushed. We were in a mixed group of ages and interests but this tour catered to everyone’s needs. The snorkelling sites were amazing. There were 6 crew on board who kept a close eye on us when snorkelling. Just one suggestion for improvement - the ‘safety briefing’ when we started was just an explanation of fees and itinerary. No-one talked about location of life jackets, man overboard procedures etc. That said, we felt we were in capable hands, the crew were friendly and attentive and we all had a great time. Really memorable experience - thank you so much.

We went on the day tour - 6 spots. All six places are very beautiful. Our guide Hugo and Andre took a very good care of all of us, especially my two daughters. They had a really great time with Hugo and Andre snorkled to see the turtles and the beautiful reefs while we also enjoyed ourselves. I would recommend any of you to go and create some good memories with red whale because they are the best ! Thanks Hugo and Andre !! And of course the rest of the crew

How much are Komodo National Park fees?

Komodo National Park fees are complicated. They depend on: the islands visited (which is weather dependent), whether it's a weekday or a weekend, whether the guest is a foreigner or a local, and the number of people on the boat (as ranger fees are shared). This is why no two people will tell you the same number when asked about fees!

The fees are also complicated by the fact that they're set by the national government and paid directly to Jakarta. So there is little visibility on changes from time to time.

This is why we usually advise international guests to bring cash of between IDR 350K to IDR 460K per person per day for weekdays and between IDR 400K to IDR 520K per person per day for weekends. This is more than you need, but it avoids you ending up short of cash if the boat doesn't have too many people or the fees suddenly change!

A few of our trips include the fees in the price. You can see it listed in the inclusion list. If this is the case there is no need to bring cash with you.

Can I still visit Komodo National Park in Jan-March rainy season?

While you can still visit Komodo National Park during the rainy season in Jan-March, there is a higher risk of boat trips being cancelled due to the weather.

The risk is lowest for the 1-day speedboats (as they are more stable) so if you are going Jan-March, we would highly recommend doing a 1-day speedboat trip. Although the 2D1N trips and some 3D2N trips are still sailing during the rainy season, there is a slightly higher risk that they might be cancelled due to the weather.

Given the unpredictability of the weather, the cancellation could happen at any time (even the morning of the trip). We will keep you updated as soon as we can if the weather prediction is not favourable for your trip.

If your trip is cancelled due to the weather, you can choose to receive a full refund, OR reschedule your trip for the next day (if weather permits). So if you're travelling from Jan-March to Komodo, please plan some extra days for your trip so you have additional days to try again, even if your original trip is cancelled!

Is the itinerary guaranteed?

The itinerary for Komodo National Park is very weather dependent, as the journey takes place out in open waters. Some days the currents are very strong, and it might not be safe to go to certain islands. We know this can be frustrating if you had your heart set on specific spots, but please be assured that the boat operators will do their very best to make sure you see the dragons and the highlights of the park - even if it's not identical to the itinerary here. A visit to Komodo is quite the adventure, so please do be prepared to embrace some level of uncertainty!
