Jade Mountain (Yushan 玉山) is the highest peak in Taiwan at 3,952m, and is the fourth largest mountain on any island in the world. Here you can do a summit climb for spectacular views. The climb is suitable for beginners (with training). Climbers are advised to do the climb during Mar-Nov to avoid winter.
Can I hike at Yushan during the winter months in Taiwan? (December to February)
It is not advisable. The mountain will be heavily clad in snow and crampons would be needed for the ascent. The mountain may be closed and impassable in January or February, depending on the weather conditions. It is best to plan well in advance and check the closure date to be sure that the trails are accessible.
